Each student will need to get the app - Seesaw on their computer or phone to complete and turn in playing and written assignment to Ms. Baker throughout the year for their performance log each quarter. Directions will be provided toward the beginning of the school year and are provided in the link below. Also, if your student does not have access to this technology- Ms. Baker has a school computer located in the band room and a general account created for any student needing it. Students will complete their playing assignments on the seesaw app at home or during class on assigned days in the practice room on the school laptop.
(Expires Seesaw Codes: Resets every 7 Days if not used to create/re log in. Use your Gmail (school account email) - if possible! (Expires 3/29 )

Titan Band Practice
In the past, we have done Practice Logs - students would log their practice time and turn it in each week for points. This year I am going to continue this but limit the requirement to 1 hour a week. I am also trying something new, I believe will have great success and create a more accurate depiction of each students skills and growth throughout the school year. Each quarter students will be given a Performance Log of tasks to complete - both theory and playing assignments to demonstrate understanding of different skills essential to their success on their instrument. Due dates of each assignment are determined throughout each quarter. Students will turn assignments in throughout the semester in person or via seesaw by the due date. If turned in by the due date - students will have the opportunity to correct or re-due assignments for full credit as many times as they'd like until the end of the quarter. If assignments are not completed and turned in by the due date, they will NOT have a chance to get full credit. More info is provided in the student handbook as to how each type of assignment is specifically graded.
Music Checks (Playing Quizzes)
Each quarter students will be quizzed on certain parts of their concert music, graded as part of their performance log. Each instrument section will have at least two music checks for parts in their concert music that may prove more difficult. Students will submit their music check on seesaw or during class (depending on the situation). Retakes are acceptable up to a week before the Fall or Spring Concert for full points. All students have the opportunity to gain full points for any playing quizzes or assignments on their performance log. As long as the students are showing effort and working to improve, there's no reason they should not do well.

All Band students will have the opportunity to participate in Band Karate as an optional way for students to grow their skills and earn extra credit or points toward their band letter! Students may perform a variety of musical skills playing scales and book exercises to achieve different "karate belts." This is a great opportunity for students to improve their individual and group playing, while having a goal in mind! Students will gain 15 points extra credit or letter points for every belt they complete (in order) and if all are completed by the end of the year - those students will receive special recognition at the end of the year awards ceremony along with a medal and certificate for their hard work and dedication.

Titan Band Handbook
Every year I hand out an updated band handbook. Inside the handbook, every aspect of our band program is explained. It includes everything from the way I grade performance logs and music checks to what to attire for a concert and musical events. Every Titan band member is expected to know the rules and expectations of our band program and keep the handbook in their binder at all times. The last page is to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to Ms. Baker at the beginning of the year.
